Hype for Debate No. 3 Is Behind the Reality Curve of Linda McMahon’s Shrill Last Lap

The third live debate between Connecticut Senate candidates Richard Blumenthal and Linda McMahon will be tonight, 7 p.m. Eastern time, at the Garde Arts Center in New London. The video will stream live at the websites of both co-sponsors, The Day newspaper (http://theday.com) and television station WTNH (http://wtnh.com).

Over the months, WTNH’s Mark Davis has done two reports about McMahon that I recommend:

* http://www.youtube.com/WrestlingBabylon#p/a/u/0/GHWU1eBJgyk (March 23)

* embedded video at http://www.wtnh.com/dpp/news/hartford_cty/hartford-mcmahons-business-practices-questioned (August 27)

Though you wouldn’t know this from the continuing yadda-yadda-yadda in new stories in such places as The Boston Globe, wrestler deaths and World Wrestling Entertainment’s independent contractor abuse – along with general public disgust at McMahon’s business practices and self-funded TV advertising – have reversed polling trends that seemed to be making the race closer than it actually is.

The main significance of tonight’s debate and the closing three weeks of the campaign will be to see whether Blumenthal lapses into complacency.

I will post commentary on the debate as quickly as I can, but child-care duties probably prevent me from being able to tweet live.
