News Notes from the WWE Royal Family

Shane McMahon, Vince’s 39-year-old son, has resigned as a World Wrestling Entertainment executive. The announcement said Shane wants to pursue new challenges. One consequence is that there will not, apparently, be a succession fight for control of what is now a third-generation family business (though one with only a ten-year history as a publicly traded company); the path is clear for Vince’s daugthter Stephanie and her wrestler-husband, Paul Levesque (”Triple H”).

Meanwhile, the Hartford Courant reports that Linda McMahon, the former CEO of WWE who resigned recently to run for the Republican nomination for U.S. senator in Connecticut, has already spent on her campaign an otherwordly $2 million of what is expected to be a total personal outlay of $30 million. See http://blogs.courant.com/capitol_watch/2009/10/mcmahon-spends-2-million-in-se.html.
